My old barber mentor told me he used to buy straight razors ten at a time for about three to four dollars apiece. It was cheaper just to buy a new one rather than send the old one out to be reground.

I've always honed my razors on an old brown Belgium Coticule that was given to me by a barber. He also showed me how to use it and he never mentioned tape. I've never had to reset a bevel either but...
