Hey if it made your shave more enjoyable then anything that works is good! I think you right about the order you used it and it melting away I (and I think most but I may be wrong) use it then lather...

Poraso pre shave is good (I have the sensitive skin version) however I have recently stopped using it and I think I get better feedback from my razor and a closer shave without it IMO
