Had the same experience with the VDH soaps. I tried the plain pink/flesh coloured one, Deluxe I believe, and was not really impressed by it. Just got a puck of VDH Luxury Unscented and have tried it...

Sort of sounds like you may have a hard water problem. Have you tried shaving with bottled water or adding a bit of lemon juice concentrate to your shave water?

Very happy the Palmolive shave stick worked out for you. Always leery about praising a soap as it may not work that well for someone else.

Yes, my workhorse soaps and creams are all the sub $20 variety. I do have a few high end options also. I am in the middle of a week of using Palmolive shave sticks formed into a bowl for lathering....

A Tabac refill puck was a sure fire hit for me although I don't think it is an under rated soap being well recognized on various forums. The Tabac AS is also excellent.
