Even the newer Delta tools I got with my mini...
Even the newer Delta tools I got with my mini lathe aren't as good as my older Sorbys I keep with my full sized lathe. They just don't hold an edge well.

To be honest, I've never tried maintaining lathe tools for an extended period of time with slip stones, I suppose it's doable. Slip stones can be had cheap on Ebay too.
