looking on that site, it did answer one of my questions. The stones are thicker without the base than with. doubled, actually. hmmm...I just might get the naniwa set or the norton set with 12k...

I think i'll go with the naniwas baseless and get the additional base. I like the idea of having double the thickness of stone.
