Mine was not flat. It needed lapping. I lapped it like I would any other stone with a DMT. And it took forever. Once it was flat, I switched to a fine DMT (1200?). The stone destroyed the fine DMT....

If it stops you from doing any further stone collecting as it did with me, it's worth every cent.
