Ace makes some good points. I would clarify #1 that the scratches are not a big factor as long as they do not extend to the edge. This gets at the concept of smoothness.

True, it may shave like a champ! Before you take them back to any hones, try them out, and find a good loupe.

It's not easy, but it's a lot easiER when you turn the light on;)

The last thing I want to do is come off as an arrogant Dbag. Honing is tricky, but (in my opinion) a hugely rewarding adventure.

My advice would be to put away the SS and the JNAT.

Until you get good shaves off the 8K, you are kidding yourself with finer hones.

I'd not be overly concerned with HHT unless you are using...
