The cutting edge is hitting the scales? That can definitely damage the edge. Depending on the material, gentle heat can allow you to bend the scales a bit, and then it will be set once they cool...

Depends on the razor for me. My body is so beat up now 1 finger more or less may not matter depending which razor it is. I'd sacrifice one to save my great grandpappy's sheffield.
