I ended up doing a lot of lapping on 600 grit wd...
I ended up doing a lot of lapping on 600 grit wd sandpaper. The face was still too rough and the hone is so hard that it doesn't break in at all.

75 years loose-in-a-toolbox hone
Amazingly no huge chips on the cutting side. Took almost 2 hrs on 200 diamond hone to remove all of this. After facing, it's a great hone, I'm very happy with it. Brand is columbia, color is red...
