Yes that is exactly what it is Hirlau.

I tried Comet cleanser and a purple Scotchbrite pad and it cleaned it some but it still has a gray colored haze in areas.
Should I invest in the kit Glen suggested or is this OK?

I have some discoloration in my DMT that doesn't seem to come out when I clean it.
Is this something that is common and normal? I use it as my lapping stone only.
