I would think that only the first 50-100 microns or so of the bevel are of consequence; and a straight razor is thinner than a Feather blade to that point. A not so well know fact is that stropping...

I think this absolutely true; however, some of us have whiskers that will reduce that well-honed blade to dull in short order.
