Ok, I tried to remove scratch from a knife( rapale style) to compare the black stone and the pike hone.
Here are my not so scientific results :

Yeah the black one seems slow. Time to pull the microscope and check the scratch pattern as Bombay suggested. Maybe use a 8k norton and a 12k naniwa as benchmark.

I havent tried yet. The norton Pike gives a real nice edge.

Hi gentlemens, after 7 months of straight razors I have started collecting some hones.
May look like a hoarding disorder but, ahem well you know ;)

I dont know if they are all suited for razors...
