Water spots or patina won't affect the blade. If worried something like autosol from the auto store will work well. Just stay away from the edge.

Definitely want more leather laps at a minimum. Try even doing 80 to 100 leather and see if that helps the edge at all.

How many laps are you doing stropping. You want to do at least 25 linen and 50 leather. If you csnt maintain an edge stropping then using paste is probably not a good idea as you may actually...

Try laying the strop on a flat surface then you only need to worry about the flip. Good luck

I'd agree with cudarunner here if your stropping is subpar paste is going to cause more problems with the edge. Stropping on paste before you can strop properly is going to end badly
