It pulls off the edges and corners... I bought the Shapton lapping plate but I don't like using it because it cost so much, go figure..
I would buy an Atoma 1200 if I was you.. worth every penny....

I took great pleasure in throwing mine away.
For slurry I prefer a DMT plate.
