Here's some pictures of the jig i made to cut the slots. It was meant to be a "one off" type of jig but if i were to make any more it would have been helpful to be adjustable as it was hard to get...

Thank you, yes they are both solid pieces of wood that i routered out. My only regret is not having a single piece of wood to make them out of as the color doesn't quite match.
