These are odd looking stones, shurely any kind of slate ;-)

Could be so, i thrust your statement as i am no geologist and i know that you know what you do :-) conglomerate was just the term i used as its a mixed up stone....

Thats the Diorite Conglomerate we have in our region its very mixed up and has a huge amount of Quartz, the black spots are Corundum....as mentioned before there seems to be formations which are less...

Up to date iam researching i bit in my region in Germany. Near Lindenfels which is in Hessen in Older Literature they wrote that very good whetstones have been quarried there, comparable to the ones...
