I don't use strokes without lateral movement. No two planes are perfectly flat so I use lateral movement on everything and all my half strokes use the heel leading in some way. As Lynn says on 3 inch...

I find I can get success with the half stroke...
I find I can get success with the half stroke even on a finisher. For example I usually do 100 strokes on the ZG; the first 75 are half strokes followed by 25 perfect x strokes.
