It depends. If you leave the factory milling on them, then yes it will feel rough. I lapped mine with a ceramic barbers hone and its smooth as glass now

I use a mudium sized surgical black from dans whetstones for my razor honing. Right to the leather strop from there! I lapped it on an old ceramic barbers hone, made it like glass. 171695
