Maybe, maybe not :) I don't know how hard a 12k cnat is but I don't just use mine for lapping. Over the years it has sharpened many a knife as well including lots of pretty hard semi exotic steels....

I've had my DMT for about 4years now and use it for both knife bevel setting and superstone lapping and it's still going strong so they defiantly last a fair while.
