I think that the grit shape is important....
I think that the grit shape is important. Coticule garnets are pretty well acknowledged by microscopy to be 4-8k. However, unlike many quartz abrasive stones, the garnets are almost round.

How are you testing? I'd suggest shaving with edges off of each stone.
My final bevel set test is HHT off a Shapton 4k Glass HR or a 5k Pro, and those edges test pretty well if I've done my job,...
