In his book, printed in 1898, Camille Page writes that faux frameback (in French "rasoir à baguette") are made since about twenty years. ( "La coutellerie depuis l'origine jusqu'à nos jours-T4-P 658)...

The scrimshaw is a good idea. I believe that the maker was Paul Popin to Chaumont, a known cutler also for his clippers
