I wonder if that was done back in the 1800s or was done as a modern technique?

I think don't straight razors were made to be "just looked at" back in the day. Even salesmen sample sets were factory sharp. I could be wrong but these all look unused. There are bevels on them.......

I noticed that the etching on the blades and tang are blackened. Was this the "norm" back in the day?
Or were they filled in by black wax or something else to make the etching stand out more? ...

Maybe we all can chip in and raise the funds to buy at least one of these.....
