But it turns out that it's good for making a mean whisky/bourbon sauce, so I'll definitely use the rest of my bottle for this purpose.

Talisker 10 is a great scotch! It's almost sort of an Islay-type without quite being there. Very interesting and highly enjoyable.

I've been drinking quite a bit of good whisky today, including some of the smokier stuff from Islay.

I was initially disappointed since its taste is significantly less strong than the Black Label with which I am familiar. I have...

I'm having a glass of Lagavulin 16 year old.
It has a surprisingly small amount of peat for an Islay whisky. I do love the complexity and notes of wood though.

Aalborg Taffel (or Red Aalborg as we like to call it) can taste quite awful if you're not used to the taste of caraway.
I find it very good to drink chilled while eating herring.

Really? It's been so long since I tasted the Laphroaig 10, and as I remember the Quarter Cask is more smokey than the 10. Perhaps I should give the Laphroaig 10 another try.

Talisker and Ardbeg are the only whiskies that make me think of the sea. I can almost taste the rough weather and mighty waves. :beer2:

Bowmore 15 is also very good. It does not come on as strong as the Ardbeg, but it has a very VERY pleasing taste. :-)
It is definitely more expensive than the Ardbeg. Well worth the money though.

Nikka Taketsuru Pure Malt a 12 year old Japanese blend. It's the only whisky I've ever tried that gets better when you let it sit in the glass for 10-15 minutes just like cognac.

Thanks for the tip. I am still new to cask strength whiskies. The only cask strength whisky I own is The Ileach which has a very potent taste. I will try the Ardbeg Uigaedail sometime.

I'm enjoying a lovely drink of Ardbeg 10 as I am typing this.
The Laphroaig Quarter Cask has long been my favorite "go to" everyday Islay whisky but the Ardbeg just might steal the spotlight.
