Neatsfoot soak has begun. Is it possible to over-saturate the scales and cause damage? I am going to leave it soaking tonight then pull it and and let it drip dry and rub it down with a cloth then...

I am enjoying every part of this journey. I plan to be patient with this razor. If it can shave sometime this year that will be fine. If not next year works too.

Just talked to a friend that keeps horses and cows. He takes great care of his animals and has offered me 2 Cups ( 1/2 Liter ) for free of neatfoot oil.

I will take my time Grazor. This straight razor is teaching me patience.

The scales are very brittle and seem to be laminated. That is why my guess was aged plastic, now that you mention horn.. could be. I have to take care of this gift.

The scales are not wood. Some type of cheap plastic from maybe the 1970's. I might be wasting my time with this razor. Maybe it was re scaled poorly? and the blade is good or would someone go to...

I have learned a lot from this thread. Just to update the progress on this razor:

I oiled it and left it alone for two days
I went to the hardware store and got a finer steel wool...

I will have sand paper soon. It is 4:30 am here in NC. I like to wake up early. Going to use Edwin Jagger Sandalwood soap and my RA 5/8 backed up by my DE.

That is a sweet razor. Mine has the same markings on the blade but it doesn't have the curve on her spine.

She is resting right now. I scrubbed the rust off and oiled her. Until I get more advice she will just be rust free and oiled. She doesn't have a name yet. She might be 150 years old.

Pretty nice of my neighbor to just give me that razor. He doesn't shave much and knows that I do enjoy a straight razor shave. I will bring this blade back to life.
