A cheap paint brush for water colors, with most of the bristles removed, and some gold leaf paint. Removed excess with a piece of hard neoprene, dampened with denatured alcohol.

I get the wax paint from Hartville hardware. The largest hardware store in America. Just so happens to be just down the street, from me.

I've used a wax type paint for a lot of things. Like rub n buff, but stiffer. Close to a crayon.
