Well i would say that the right side of the leather is much rougher than my other strops, but i guess you could smooth it with sandpaper. To be honest i have never used it as i was going to save it...

Just ordered one, and a strop too. Decided against the hone as I already have a norton and wasn't sure of the grit on the hones.
I think for the money, you can't really go wrong with these razors.
