I use a piece of 600 grit wet-dry sandpaper on my glass stovetop (yes it is perfectly level) for lapping. Works fine.

I had such great success with the 1k and 3/8k...
I had such great success with the 1k and 3/8k Naniwa stones...I thought to myself...why change now...hence the 12k Naniwa. And it did not disappoint....awesome product! I don't see myself buying...

My thoughts exactly. I would really like to master the 4/8 and learn to hone using this combination. Then, and only then, would I look at expanding to a higher grit finishing stone.

The general consensus was a 1k, 4/8k and a strop should be sufficient to get a razor shave ready. But if...if I wanted some kind of finishing stone what would that one finishing stone look like 10k,...
