Well to be honest I don't know if it is or isn't. Great question. And great point about gun stocks. Only reason I am using walnut is it was free and in slabs. Thanks Sir for the feed back.

So I acquired some walnut scrap slabs from a friend. Decided tonight I'd play around and see what comes. I have this only as practice I have not ordered any knots. Walnut, sanded to 400 then boiled...
