Not so much that it lifts the beard, I have a rather light beard. I do notice smoother skin afterwards, maybe it exfoliates better. I can use it even with cold water (which I do now that it's hot)...

I have a nice Best badger hair brush which I bought from ebay and another on the way from Lee's Safety Razor's but I like my store bought boarhair brushes too. They seem to form great lather faster...
