Yes, it's certainly manufactured. Were the American Hone Co. ones you had marked in any way? I can't find any markings on the hone or anywhere on the box.

I think it was for a rubbing stone too. The box is lined with padding and that small area is too. I really don't know what this stone is, it's a ridiculous size!
