I wouldn't be so quick to discount boar's hair, there are just so many crappy ones out there. A broken-in Proraso Omega is compromise in firmness and softness, and I like it as much as any badger...

Boar bristes are harder. Badger is softer, holds more water.
I find they make slightly different lathers, as the stiff boar bristles contribute to whipping...
