The edge pro is a guided freehand, you have to keep that in mind. If you want to remove as much of the human factor, other systems are advisable.

I started with the Lansky system and it is good...
I started with the Lansky system and it is good enough for people who won't obsess over their edge... So that's neither you nor me.
Thus I'm slowly learning freehand honing, but often use the Lansky...
