I am not understanding the purpose steel the baking sheet?
I’ve always used a granite tile, or counter top cutout, confirmed flat with straight edge.

Ps. I think marble or too soft for lapping plate.... granite or quartzite is best. You can often get i for free at counter top shops, Or granite tile cheap at tile stores.... bring straight...

i like to have 2 finishes on my trans ark, which i understand are close,
one side at 600, other at 1200 ( from the advice of honemeisters) also it cuts down on time to finish and edge
i didn't love...
