I would think it would probably be a lot easier to get one of the current China hones from like aliexpress or something and grind it down to the correct thickness than trying to use a barbers hone ,...

There are a few vids and how to's online. I watched one once. If i remember correctly it involved getting a stone cutter to slice up a straight razor stone into slices and then gluing it down.....
