The thing is, the 1200 is not the best for lapping in general, but you are trying to get two uses out of one plate, it is possible but like any thing that you try and get a compromise on it is not...

You are on the right track, I have the DMT 325 which I bought just for lapping Naturals and Barber's hones...

The 1200 should do a fine job on the Norton 4/8, the initial lapping might take...
