    It truly depends on how many chips/frowns you think you may be taking on. Either a lower grit hone or diamond plate can accomplish this faster but the 1k can do it as well, just slower.

    I'm going to disagree with everything above. That is, I think there is something wrong with the Norton 220/1k.

    The Norton 220 side is a muddy slow cutting mess and I consider it to be borderline...
