No I don't think a brass brush will hurt it. In fact, I THINK I remember that DMT recommended using a brass brush for cleaning.

Yeah, oil (or whatever WD40 is) might be the best...
Yeah, oil (or whatever WD40 is) might be the best thing to solubilize the oil on the DMT.

I have used unscented oven cleaner on barber...
I have used unscented oven cleaner on barber hones. It may work to de-grease your DMT.
