Okay, I've officially joined the party! Picked up a 9x6 piece of plate glass from a glass shop ($10)--they even threw in rubber feet for free--and ordered the 6,3,1,0.5um diamond film from PSIDragon...

Looks great--$3.50 for 8.5"x11"!:D Only thing is they're PSA--is that hard to get perfectly flat on glass w/o a roller or no? Also, they don't have 3 um--would jumping from 5 to 1 work?

The lowest I see is 6.15 for the 1.0 um. Still good, considering you can cut it in half.
