I have been thinking, it is probably due to the razor not being sharp enough. A razor that is not sharp enough causes you to press too hard and go over the same area several times. :shrug:

As a pre-shave I use either Cremo cream or feather pre shave both work fine. I have also used proraso pre shave and it worked well too. But the others might be right about the angle and sharpness....
