4000 grit probably won't give you much of a shave on its own, but it should be plenty sharp to shave your arms :D 8000 is the coursest grit I have been able to get a shave from

You'll want a finer finish than 4,000 grit. A lot of shavers are using 12,000 and up for sharp edges.
