Oh, I missed the last question I guess. With the rounding, they are as forgiving as round points. It doesn't take much to knock the aggression off a square/spike point.

The vast majority (if not all) barber notched razors that I have seen are a bit rounded at the toe. Some are more rounded than others, though.

It's very possible that you won't be able to. If you want to try to save an etch, I would suggest you start off with the highest grit sandpaper you have and slowly work your way down.

I've got a concave ground Wade & Butcher that has "Celebrated Rattler" etched onto the blade. I'd put up pics, but she needs a lot of work so she's rather shy now.
