I don't take the tape off for my paddle with diamond paste either. I did take it off for my felt hanging strop with diamond spray on one razor and no problems.

I use one layer of tape on all of the razors that I hone and I have honed a lot of them. I remove the tape when I am done honing. Stropping with out the tape hasn't been an issue. Note that Tim...
