Just IME the pattern welded stuff we have today is beautiful and shaves great. At least the ones that I have bought. It would be nice to have the 'true' Damascus of legend but since I'm only shaving...

I don't know if ATS-34 or S-30V would qualify as 'exotic' nowadays ( they used to be) but I've got one of the former by Bill Ellis and two of the latter by Robert Williams and they are great shavers.
