I was starting to fiddle around again, to reset the bevel to a lower angle, but ended up flaking off a large portion of the edge:rant:, so I decided to not waste my time with it...

Perhaps, but to tell the truth, just picking up a straight and shaving with it felt alot less satisfying then stropping with it first. Low-maintenance may not be all that its' cracked up to be!

I will also say that after the first pass failed, I did think that perhaps the ceramic blade required a different angle, so I went back and tried a steeper one, to no avail...

I had some stronger language for my razor than "snicker-snack" after that first pass, let me tell you!:rant:

That is precisely why I too assume incompetance on the part of the Kyocera testers. I doubt very much that those guys shaved with a straight prior to picking up whatever it was they tried to...

Look at posts #42&#43, by all accounts the ceramic edge is very near to that of the steel razor.

I suppose it's a wedge, but the wedge is quite narrow....

Certainly doesn't "ping" when cleaving arm hairs...

As a point of reference, here is a recently honed edge from my "Marshian" razor, Sheffield steel. They look fairly comparable. The ceramic has some slight microchipping, and the Marshian edge looks...

After further review. it would seem that perhaps my original bevel angle was closer to like 35 degrees...:thinking:


I have reset the bevel now closer to 25degrees, and used some...

But as you can see here, he only goes to 1000 grit. That'll make for a mighty rouch shave!

And I used a set of calipers and some CAD software to determine edge bevel...

Gave the razor a test drive on New Year's.

Shaved like kaa-kaa:(.

Well, actually it felt smooth against the skin, but it didn't shave off the whiskers very well.

As far as high grits go.....I tried using a 1200 diamond plate to set the bevel, and it chipped the edge...

Why yes, it used to be a paring knife.

However, as shown here, paring knives can make excellent shavers!:p

I believe it's zirconium carbide, as it's the black stuff....supposedly tougher than the oxide.:shrug:



No stropping. It seems that stropping can lead to microchipping in my limited experiments...
