You put on enough white paste to fully cover the fabric and fill in the weave. 1 tube was just enough to do my TM canvas 3" strop.

Or paste the outside, and if for some strange reason you decide you don't like the results (fresh, sharp, comfy edge), you can then unscrew and flip the strop to the unpasted side.
