No, I don't use tape when honing DAs. What I do use is a 1200DMT and make sure that the bevel is set before moving on to refine the edge. By set, I mean that the edge will cut arm hairs mid stalk...

Yes, I straightened the tang, not the spine. As Glenn's original post shows, the tangs are often out of alignment. I have never found the spines of any of them to be warped/bent.

Honed up another one today, took a pretty nice edge, and centers in the scales (that did require a bit of vice-work...):

Once worked correctly, they are indeed fine razors. Fresh from the factory, maybe not so much. Nobody should expect anything else for $12

Nope! That's a swedish stainless steel Dovo Renaissance edge. I think the little balck marks are just surface contamination.

OK, here's my take on them, as I have held, fondled, ground, sanded, honed, cursed, and shaved with a total of 7 of them myself. So it's not just what I've read on the forums about what someone...

I never work on other people's razors, as I'd rather own it until I'm satisfied with it, and then sell it. That's why I don't do re-sclaes, etc- there's always a number of variables when someone...

On the old razors it seems that one side was grinded with a taper and the other was not.

On the DAs it appears pretty random, and is most like a result of the way they were cast/banged out.
