Actually you don't have to spend that much. $60 is more than enough to get a quality Badger that will make plenty of lather pretty easily.

I think when you talk of beginners anything you try and avoid extremes. A huge brush that can get away from you and eats tons of soap and requires plenty of manipulation might not be the best brush...
