The only time I'll intentionally dull a razor is if I detect a crumbly/chippy edge during bevel set, then I use the corner of my 1k and run a few passes, then start over on the 1k

Are you evaluating the edge during the process? If you can get it to easily pop arm hair, try up to 30 laps at almost zero pressure, mine will tree top arm hair at this point and be shave ready.
