It would be hard to guess what may have happened to your stone over a 4 year period. I only have 2 fairly new choceras but I will treat them like my Shaptons.

I ask because the Shapton Pro instructions contain warnings about that. They are also ceramic stones

Nope you're wrong. My Atoma 1200 was brand new. That I had to start with 80 grit SiC on glass should make it obvious how warped my stone was.

I should have specified "my 20k". It was truly a nightmare & I would have destroyed my 1200 Atoma lapping it, not to mention the time wasted.

The one I received was shaped like a banana so I started with 80 grit SiC on float glass. Then progressed thru 140, 400, 1200 Atoma.

I lapped the concave side as the 2 ends gave me starting...

:hmmm: People must have a lot of time on their hands to try lapping a new 20k with a 1200 Atoma.

The Atoma have a raised surface so stiction is no issue unless you never rinse it while lapping.
They also have a consistency of flatness that DMT doesn't have.
