I do agree that burnishing the top of a stone...
I do agree that burnishing the top of a stone made with coarse particles can make it act smoother but I have a hard time seeing how whatever wear occurs can change, say, a 12k stone into a 20k stone.

I think how/if the abrasive fractures would have to be taken in to account ie if the tops of a stone or DMT chip off flat & cut like a wood plane rather than sandpaper . You still have to consider...

You are right a 12 k stone cannot create a 20k...
You are right a 12 k stone cannot create a 20k finish.
What some fail to understand is that you cannot assign a grit rating to natural stones so the whole concept is moot.
